Karnataka bypolls: Voting for 3 Lok Sabha and 2 Assembly seats takes place
Voting took place for by-polls to three Lok Sabha and two Assembly constituencies in Karnataka today.
Polling at Shivamogga, Mandya and Bellary Lok Sabha seats, and Ramanagara and Jamkhandi Assembly segments began at 7 this morning and continued till 6 pm.
Peaceful voting has been reported from all the constituencies.Over 54 lakh voters cast their votes in about 6,500 polling stations. 31 candidates were in the fray in all the five constituencies.
Counting will take place on Tuesday.The by-elections were necessitated after Mr Yeddyurappa from Shivamogga, Mr Sriramalu from Ballari and Mr Puttaraju from Mandya resigned as MPs on their election to the Assembly in May this year.
Bypolls to Jamkhandi assembly seat was caused by the death of Congress MLA Siddu Nyamagouda, while Ramanagara fell vacant after Mr Kumaraswamy gave up the seat preferring Chennapatna, the other constituency from where he had won.
