Johnny Depp has won the $50 million defamation case filed against ex-wife Amber Heard.

The six-week-long trial in Fairfax, Virginia saw many explosive accusations from both parties. For the uninitiated, Depp sued Amber for defamation regarding an op-ed, which was published in the Washington Post in 2018 where she called herself a domestic abuse survivor. The legal team claimed a $50 million compensation payment.

Heard met on the sets of The Rum Diary in 2009 and started dating a few years later. In 2015, they got married. In 2016, Heard filed for divorce and alleged that Depp had physically abused her during their marriage under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Depp denied the accusations and stated that Heard was “attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.” Their divorce was finalised in 2017. Johnny Depp later Johnny Depp later sued Amber Heard for defamation because of an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post in 2018. In the op-ed, headlined “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change,” Heard claimed that she was a domestic abuse survivor. However, she did not name Depp. While Johnny Depp was awarded $15 million in damages, Amber Heard received $2 million in a libel countersuit. The trial went on for six weeks and the US jury heard explanations from witnesses of both sides.

Disha Patani took to her Instagram stories and shared a photo of Johnny Depp. In the photo, he is seen in his costume as Jack Sparrow. “Nobody can ever replace you Johnny Depp ,” she wrote, presumably referring to Depp’s removal from the Pirates franchise. Sophie Choudry shared a photo of Depp and wrote, “Tell the world Johnny. Tell them Johnny Depp, I, Johnny Depp, a man, I’m a victim too of domestic violence and I know it’s a fair fight, and see how many people believe or side with you. 6 years later he told his truth and won both in & out of court.”
