NEW DELHI: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) announced that it will hold a protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 on March 17 at Jantar Mantar. Earlier, the demonstration was to be held on March 13.
The change in date for demonstration was announced by board general secretary Maulana Mujaddidi and it’s spokesperson Dr Qasim Rasool Ilyas at a press conference in at the Press Club of India today. The date had to be shifted due to March 13 being Holi and police didn’t permit.
Speaking at the Press Conference , the board’s spokesperson SQR Ilyas stated that several MPs have been invited for the protest. This has been done in order to invoke the conscience of “secular” political parties, including those part of the NDA government.
He also said the AIMPLB had facilitated over 3.6 crore responses via emails to suggestions sought by the parliamentary panel.
SQR Ilyas further mentioned that after careful consideration, the Board has come to the conclusion that the proposed legislation will pave the way for the “usurping” of Waqf properties and it was a “direct attack” on Muslims.
