Iran war: Regional tensions remain intense as Iran, the United States, and Israel continue exchanging strong warnings while violence persists
Tensions remain high in the Iran war as the United States, Iran and Israel continue to exchange warnings, despite a temporary ceasefire. US President Donald Trump said Washington may still restart military action, claiming Iranian leaders are eager for a deal, while also saying only a few people know the full details of the ongoing talks.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian strongly criticised the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, calling it an unacceptable extension of military operations. Meanwhile, air defence systems were activated in Tehran after reports of small aircraft and drones near the capital.
Military and diplomatic pressure is growing across the region. Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that Israel may need to “act again” against Iran to stop it from becoming a threat. In Lebanon, Israeli strikes in the south killed several people despite an active ceasefire, while the US embassy called for direct talks between Lebanese and Israeli leaders.
Trump also suggested reducing US troop presence in Italy and Spain because of their opposition to the Iran war. Analysts say Iran has prepared for sanctions and blockades with stored oil reserves and a strong domestic market, making pressure tactics less effective.
The wider impact of the conflict is also being felt globally. The UAE has advised its citizens to leave Iran, Lebanon and Iraq immediately due to rising regional risks. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth defended Pentagon actions after criticism over civilian deaths, saying efforts are being made to reduce harm and human oversight remains in place even when AI is used in military decisions.
Reports claim over 1,700 civilians, including children, have died in the war so far. At the same time, oil prices have surged sharply, with Brent crude reaching a four-year high, raising fresh concerns over the global economy and energy markets.
