Press Release:

After the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, if sectarianism had been crushed, the country would have been saved from destruction: Maulana Arshad Madani

Hazrat Maulana Syed Arshad Madani sahab addresing a public conference at Azad maidan Mumbai

Mumbai 22 May, 2023. On the last day of the three-day meeting of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, in a public Conference held at Historical Azad Maidan in Mumbai, addressing millions of audience of Muslims community who came from all over the country .

Maulana Arshad Madani once again said that sectarian forces were behind the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. And if the head of sectarianism was crushed at that time, the country could have been saved from destruction.

Shri Jitendr Awhad MLA Mumra ,Speaking in public Conference held at Historical Azad Maidan Mumbai

He explained that after the partition, anti-Muslim riots triggered all over the country and Mahatma Gandhi was taking steps to stop them. The sectarian forces, even the senior leaders in the Congress did not like this and turned against him and eventually he was assassinated.

Maulana Madani said that the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi was actually the assassination of the secularism of the country, but the Congress leadership did not do what it should have done at that time.

Turning the pages of history, he said that before independence, the leaders of Jamiat Ulama-i- Hind had taken a written promise from the Congress leaders that after independence, the country’s constitution would be secular, it means that the government would have no religion, and all minorities would have complete religious freedom.

He further said that when the country was divided, a large number of Congress leaders also joined the demand of these other leaders that since a new country has been created for Muslims, the constitution of the country should not be kept secular.

At this time, the leadership of Jamiat Ulama Hind sat down holding the Congress leaders, and said that if the country was divided, you have signed the draft, not us. Therefore, fulfil the promise you have made to us, so the secular constitution has been made.

However, the roots of communalism grew deeper; despite the repeated demands of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, it was not outlawed, even though the Congress was in control of the centre and all the states at the time and could have passed a strict law against it if it had desired.

Instead, the Congress adopted a flexible policy, which allowed the communalists to gain power and eventually swallow the Congress’s sun of power .

In this regard, Maulana Madani also said that the tough stand taken by the Congress in the Karnataka election and the way it promised to ban Bajrang Dal and other similar organizations is commendable.

And now it is time for the Congress to fulfil its election promise, and restore the reservation given to Muslims on the basis of economic backwardness, he added that this election was fought entirely on the basis of Hindu-Muslim antagonism, but the people of Karnataka completely rejected this agenda of their hatred.

This election result shows that the majority of the country does not like the politics of hatred even today, he said that the Congress has taken a strong stand against communalism, if it had taken the same stand 75 years ago, it would not have been ousted from power, the country would not have reached the brink of destruction.

To explain how communalism has strengthened its roots in these 75 years, Maulana Madani mentioned a meeting he had with Rahul Gandhi when the Congress was in power, and educated Muslim youth were being arrested in case terrorism.

When he met Rahul Gandhi on this issue, he directed the then Minister of State for Home Affairs to resolve this issue. The said Minister took a serious interest in the matter and assured to resolve it, but after two months, the Minister was dismissed, and the case file was closed forever.

Maulana Madani said that from this incident, it can be understood that to what extent the poison of sectarianism has been embedded in the veins of the country, neither the constitution nor the constitutional institutions are safe in the hands of sectarian forces.

There is a conspiracy to take away the religious freedom of the citizens by introducing a uniform civil code. Efforts to promote Hindu revivalism have started under the guise of the new national education policy.

Jamiat Ulama Hind strongly opposes it, and resolution on it have also been passed in the meeting of the General Body of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

He said that the truth is that the entire country has been turned into a police state by creating an atmosphere of fear. But sectarianism has not been able to destroy national integrity, religious unity and mutual love which are centuries-old values yet.

The people of Karnataka have given proof of this. Some people are still under the illusion that the politics of hatred can only preserve their power, such people have suffered a severe jerk in Karnataka.

He said that it is necessary that we become a practical example of national unity and religious tolerance for the unity and security of the country. He once again said that hatred cannot be defeated by hatred but by love.

This is our country, for which our elders have made enormous sacrifices, so the responsibility for its development and prosperity is also placed on us.

Difficult times come and go in the life of nations, so instead of being disappointed, we should spend all our energy on the country’s religious unity, peace and legal and economic development.

Referring to the increasing incidence of apostasy, he said that the only solution to curb it is to establish separate schools and colleges with good quality for our boys and girls.

For this, he appealed to the rich people of the nation to come forward, and told all the attendees that you all need to work together as a mission for this.

Among the important personalities who attended the conference were Mufti Syed Masoom Saqib, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Maulana Mahmood Dariyabadi, Maulana Syed Asjad Madani, Vice President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Maulana Akhlad Rashidi from Madinah Munawwarah, Maulana Ashhad Rashidi, and President of Jamiat Ulama UP.
