Pitampura Incident: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Delegation Meets ACP, Demands Legal Action Against MLA Karnail Singh for Provocative Activities
New Delhi, May 25:A delegation led by the organization’s General Secretary, Maulana Mohammad Hakeemuddin Qasmi, met ACP Mangolpuri Shri Murari Lal today at Rani Bagh Police Station and submitted a detailed memorandum regarding the recent dispute and demolition incident near the Ramleela Ground in Pitampura (Shakur Basti), Delhi. The concerned SHO was also present during the meeting.
The delegation strongly condemned the provocative statements and actions of local MLA Karnail Singh, accusing him of creating communal tension and taking the law into his own hands.
It urged the Delhi Police to initiate immediate, impartial, and strict legal action in order to maintain communal harmony and uphold the rule of law. Along with the memorandum, the delegation submitted several pieces of evidence, including video recordings, media reports, and social media material related to the incident.
In the memorandum, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind categorically clarified that the claim made by MLA Karnail Singh that the demolished wall or structure was part of a mosque or madrasa is entirely baseless and misleading. The organization stated that the structure in question was neither a part of the mosque nor the madrasa and that it was deliberately misrepresented to provoke communal sentiments and mislead the public.
The memorandum further alleged that MLA Karnail Singh not only participated in the demolition by taking the law into his own hands but also repeatedly made inflammatory and hate-filled statements that were widely circulated by national media outlets and across social media platforms.
It noted that the MLA himself proudly shared these videos and reports on his Facebook account, portraying the incident as a “victory.” In one such video, he allegedly declared: “Neither a madrasa nor a mosque will be allowed here.”
Expressing deep concern, the delegation stated that such statements and actions have created an atmosphere of fear, insecurity, and communal tension in the locality, adversely affecting peace and public order.
The memorandum emphasized that demolition carried out by an elected representative in the presence of slogan-raising supporters, while directly targeting a particular religious community, amounts to open provocation and incitement capable of encouraging vigilantism and lawlessness in society.
The delegation demanded that an FIR be immediately registered against MLA Karnail Singh under Sections 153A, 153B, 295A, 505, and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity, incitement, and public mischief.
It also called for a fair, impartial, and time-bound inquiry into the ownership and nature of the demolished structure so that the facts may be officially clarified before the public.
The delegation additionally requested adequate security arrangements for worshippers visiting the mosque and urged the authorities to ensure that peace and communal harmony are maintained in the area.
The memorandum stressed that no individual, irrespective of political office or influence, should be allowed to violate due legal process or take the law into their own hands. It further underlined that safeguarding the constitutional rights of all citizens and protecting the country’s communal harmony remain the responsibility of the administration.
Copies of the memorandum were also sent to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi.
The delegation included Maulana Aftab Alam Siddiqui, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama Delhi; Vice Presidents Maulana Mufti Khalil Qasmi and Qari Mohammad Arif Qasmi; Nazim Tanzim Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Al-Azmi; Mufti Zakir Hussain Qasmi from the central office; and local representatives including Maulana Jamshed (Imam of Masjid Noor-ul-Huda, Pitampura) and Dr. Mohammad Yusuf.
