Ahmedabad:Top Bureau//Gujarat BJP President Vijay Rupani will be the new Chief Minister of the state. State Health Minister Nitin Patel has been named Deputy Chief Minister. The decision to this effect was taken after long deliberations at the BJP legislative party meeting. BJP’s Central Observer Nitin Gadkari announced this decision after the BJP’s state Legislative Party meeting in Gandhinagar.
Sources said during the one-hour meeting, outgoing chief minister Anandiben Patel was rooting for Nitin Patel, insisting that a Patel leader be chosen to lead the state ahead of next year’s elections. But party chief Amit Shah supported Mr Rupani, pointing out that a large section of the party leaders were in his favour.Top special correspondent report:
Minster of Transport, Labour and Water Supply in Anandben Patel cabinet, Vijay Rupani(60) will be the Gujarat’s 16th Chief Minister , Born in 1956, Vijay has started his political career as a student activist from BJP’s student wing- Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parisad in Rajkot. He also worked in RSS and party organization and was jailed during the emergency period. He has also served as Mayor of Rajkot. He was Rajya Sabha MP during 2006 to 2012 before elected as MLA from Rajkot west seat.
While, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel belongs to Patel community of North Gujarat. Born in 1956, Nitin Patel represents Kadi seat in the state Assembly. He also served as a cabinet Minister in Anandiben Patel Government as well as during earlier Narendra Modi Government.
Sources also revealed that outgoing CM of Gujrat Anandibein alleged that her Govt.was sabotaged by her opponents in the party , now it is to be seen that how the new Chief Minister fullfill the expectations of the party in the next assembly elections which is due next year .
