Malegaon Verdict: JiH Demands Disbanding of Failing Investigative Agencies

Malegaon verdict: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind calls for disband of investigative agencies
Consistent failure to provide justice is a matter of concern

Press Release//New Delhi, 31 July 2025: Maulana Hakeemuddin Casmir, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, while reacting to acquittal of the accused in the Malegaon bomb blast case by the NIA court, called it yet another glaring and disgraceful failure of the country’s investigative agencies.

He stated that these agencies were entrusted with the crucial responsibility of uncovering the truth in sensitive cases like terrorism and ensuring that real perpetrators are brought to justice. Unfortunately, he said, these institutions have consistently failed in this responsibility, often misleading investigations and denying justice to victims.

“This is not the first time that such an outcome has emerged in a high-profile case,” Maulana Qasmi said. “In the past, innocent individuals have spent decades behind bars, only to be exonerated later — while the real culprits remained untouched. Despite the passage of many years, justice has never reached the actual perpetrators.”

He emphasized that if the country’s most powerful investigative agencies repeatedly fail to deliver, there is no moral or legal justification for their continued existence. “It is unjustifiable to waste public funds on institutions that have lost public trust.

It would be better to either dissolve these agencies or subject them to thorough accountability and introduce sweeping reforms to ensure they uphold the principles of justice.”

Maulana Qasmi called on the government and judiciary to take this matter with utmost seriousness. “There must be stern action against the irresponsible and negligent conduct of investigative agencies.

Officers whose carelessness, prejudice, or malicious intent led to wrongful accusations and allowed actual offenders to roam free must be held accountable and punished. Additionally, the affected families must be fairly compensated and rehabilitated without delay.”

He also recalled the day of the Malegaon blast with deep sorrow: “It occurred during the last ten days of Ramadan.

I personally visited Malegaon, and on the day of Eid, Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, also went there in person to express solidarity with the bereaved families.

That Eid was steeped in grief. It was our duty to help the community recover from despair. Sadly, today’s verdict has reopened those wounds and revived that pain.”
