Saudi Arabia has said that at least 1,301 people have died during this year’s hajj, most of them unregistered pilgrims, who walked long distances in extreme heat. During Hajj this year, it was very hot and the temperature was more than 50 degrees.

The Minister of Health of Saudi Arabia, Fahad Al-Jalajil, says that the government had provided information to the pilgrims about the dangers of extreme heat and how to deal with them. According to the Minister of Health, treatment was provided to approximately five lakh pilgrims during Hajj, and among them, one hundred and forty thousand pilgrims were those who did not have Hajj permits. According to the Health Minister, many people are still undergoing treatment in hospitals. However, various countries have been giving information about the number of their citizens who died. According to an Arab diplomat of the AFP news agency, 658 citizens of Egypt and more than 200 citizens of Indonesia are among those who died during Hajj. Apart from this, India has confirmed the deaths of 98 citizens, while Malaysia, Pakistan, Iran, Jordan, Sudan, Senegal, Tunisia and the Autonomous Kurdistan Region of Iraq have also reported the deaths of their citizens during Hajj.
