Supreme Court further Stays on places of worship Act ,1991

New Delhi: 17 February 2025 Press Release:The bench, headed by the Chief Justice of India, heard the petition regarding the constitutional status of the law for the protection of places of worship by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

On today’s progress, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and petitioner, Maulana Arshad Madani, stated that further stay by the Supreme Court would, to some extent, put a halt to the spreading of communalism and unrest in the country.

The petition filed by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is numbered Civil Writ Petition 782/2022, on which the court issued a notice to the central government on September 9, 2022.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is the only organization that has filed a special petition for the protection of this law, and at the very first hearing of the petition seeking to abolish the law, Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan appeared on behalf of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

Since then, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has been following up on this case. A three-member bench will hear the matter in the first week of April.

भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश की अध्यक्षता वाली पीठ ने जमीयत उलेमा-ए-हिंद द्वारा प्लेस ऑफ वर्शिप एक्ट के लिए कानून की संवैधानिक स्थिति के संबंध में याचिका पर सुनवाई की।

जमीयत उलेमा-ए-हिंद के अध्यक्ष और याचिकाकर्ता मौलाना अरशद मदनी ने कहा कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा स्टे बढ़ाने से देश में सांप्रदायिकता और अशांति फ़ैलाने वालों पर कुछ हद तक रोक लगेगी।

जमीयत उलेमा-ए-हिंद द्वारा दायर याचिका का नंबर सिविल रिट प्टीशन 782/2022 है, जिस पर अदालत ने 9 सितंबर, 2022 को केंद्र सरकार को नोटिस जारी किया था ।

जमीयत उलेमा-ए-हिंद एकमात्र संगठन है जिसने इस कानून के संरक्षण के लिए एक विशेष याचिका दायर की है और कानून को खत्म करने की मांग वाली याचिका की पहली सुनवाई में जमीयत उलेमा-ए-हिंद की ओर से वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता राजीव धवन पेश हुए थे ।

तब से, जमीयत उलेमा-ए-हिंद इस केस को लड़ रही है। तीन सदस्यीय पीठ इस मामले की अगली सुनवाई अप्रैल के पहले सप्ताह में करेगी।
