Speculating on GST? CBIC Says That’s Our Job, Not Yours

Date:

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has a message for the people: stop trying to guess GST rates — leave the suspense game to us. In a social media post, the Board reminded citizens that only the GST Council — a gathering of the Centre and States — gets the privilege of deciding how much lighter your wallet will feel.

According to CBIC, any early chatter about rates creates “baseless rumours” and “market volatility.” Translation: speculation is bad when you do it, but perfectly fine when the government keeps everyone in the dark until the last minute.

The Board politely advised all stakeholders to sit tight and wait for the grand revelation after the GST Council’s big meeting on September 3rd and 4th — as if it were the season finale of a suspense thriller.
