Riots- affected Jama Masjid Sohna Reopens for Juma Prayers, Imam Expresses Gratitude to Jamiat


New Delhi, 25th August 2023- The riots affected historic Jama Masjid Lakadd Shah, located in Nehru Bazar, Sohna in Mewat has reopened its doors for Juma prayers today. This sacred place of worship, also known as Darzi Wali Masjid, had borne the brunt of extensive damage during the Mewat riots. Today, on the occasion of Juma prayers, a congregation of faithful devotees gathered there to perform Juma prayers.

Jama Masjid Lakadd Shah, surrounded by mostly Hindu neighbors, had suffered severe vandalism and destruction amidst the tumultuous communal unrest. The communal assailants targeted doors, windows, fans, electrical fixtures, and defiled the sanctity of the mosque. Through the unwavering commitment of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, the meticulous restoration of the mosque has been successfully completed, ushering in a moment of renewal and unity.

Maulana Tahir Hussaini, the Imam of the mosque, expressed profound gratitude towards Maulana Mahmood Asa’d Madani, the President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, for his unwavering support throughout the painstaking restoration process. Maulana Hussaini also extended appreciation to Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi, the General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, for his instrumental role in facilitating the reconstruction efforts.

During the inaugural address, Maulana Tahir Hussaini emphasized, “The encouragement and steadfast cooperation provided by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind have rejuvenated our spirits. Even during trying times, the team from Jamiat displayed remarkable dedication, promptly initiating the restoration work, reaffirming its commitment to the betterment of our community.”

Beyond the restoration of mosques, the initiatives of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind encompass a comprehensive mission aimed at rehabilitating other affected places of worship, extending legal aid to the wrongfully detained, and providing support to the vulnerable in the region. The organization’s unyielding dedication to the region’s welfare is evident through its diverse endeavors, including the distribution of essential supplies to those in need.

The inauguration ceremony bore witness to the presence of notable leaders, including Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi, along Senior Organizer Maulana Ghayoor Ahmed Qasmi, Organizer Maulana Muazzam Arfi, Maulana Azhar, Maulana Yameen, and Maulana Saa’d from Aman Fellowship. In an impassioned address, Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi underscored the significance of gratitude and compassion, highlighting that the nation’s strength is deeply rooted in its unity and tolerance.
