International conference on “Gender Equal Nation Building” held

A wide galaxy of prominent Indian and International speakers shared diverse perspectives and ideas on Gender equality 

Two Days international conference (10 – 11 March)  on “Gender Equal Nation Building” jointly organised by Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD) and International Federation of Training & Development Organizations (IFTDO) was held at Scope Complex Lodi Road New Delhi .

The Conference is in line with Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav & the country’s vision towards Equality, Inclusivity & Diversity . A wide galaxy of prominent Indian and International speakers shared diverse perspectives and ideas during these 2 days’ sessions . Anita Chauhan National President of ISTD had such a miraculously conceptualized and organized this women centric conference.

The opening speech, delivered by Dr. Aneeta Madhok pointed out that 40 yrs back, few organizations in India had separate Ladies toilet & working space for female employees . On the positive side, the differential pay between men & women is narrowing while India still need miles to go in terms of gender equality.

Dr. Rajeshwari Narendran intimated that while Gender equality is a very vibrant subject, it should start at home first. Parents should be the role models in teaching their children that brother & sister had equal rights in the family as-well-as in society. On the brighter side, the number of independent Directors on Board have increased & their voices are now being heard across industries.

Dr. Alka Mittal, former CMD ONGC, emphasized on 3 mantras i.e. Aspiration, Focus & Confidence, for the growth of women in professional field. She explained various aspects in gender equality with live examples & urged women to come out of their comfort zone.

Ms.Janet Jolaoso from Nigeria(Africa) , a Board member of IFTDO, spoke about gender equality across continents & the qualitative change that needs to be bring as the need of the hour.

The next speaker, Smt. Yogita Singh emphasized that ISTD is having a lady National President is gender equality in true sense. She mentioned the various welfare schemes for women welfare i introduced by the current govt & that our country is moving fast towards gender equality.

In the meantime, the ISTD Newsletter ISTD TIMES was released. Ms.Anita Chauhan, National President, ISTD, spoke about the growth of women in Indian industry & the growth of India from constructing toilets for women to leading the G20 nations. She emphasized that, women being active both at home & work, their efficiency is to be considered more than that of men. She said that Indian women are being recognised in every field of activity. Nation building is an all-encompassing term .

She said the world too is looking at India’s contribution to the global growth. In many areas such as IT, Pharma, Vaccines, Space technology, Cinema, automobile components etc.  we had made global mark already. Our thoughts now go to our women, the most resilient element of India that is. An Indians household or the Indian society is incomplete without its women, though, productive numbers may not be written against their names.

She also added the women’s contribution in the household or in the society very much in place, and she binds the family which is the lowest unit of a society. But their numbers are in being upfront is sometimes invisible. This leads to many to think that they are not part of the Nation building process. 

Conference moderator, Dr. Neelam Panchal  while delivering  the vote of thanks said  that Education is the largest means of empowering women.

 

Dignitaries who participated in the conference includes Yogita Singh former Director, National Handloom Development Corporation & presently President, Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha, Dr.Udesh Kohli President Emeritus, Dr.Rajeshwari Narendran past national president .
