Caste Census a Crucial Step Towards Justice: Madani

New Delhi, 17 June 2025: Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, has issued a press statement supporting the upcoming caste-based census in India.

He expressed hope that this initiative will lead to just governance, accurate policymaking, and equitable resource distribution.

Maulana Madani emphasized that the caste-based census is no longer a mere bureaucratic formality—it has become a social and political necessity.

The data collected through this exercise will directly influence reservation policies, social development schemes, and the fair allocation of welfare benefits.

In this context, Maulana Madani urged the entire Muslim community across India to actively participate in the caste census. He stressed that every Muslim household should ensure that their customary caste identity is accurately recorded.

Maulana Madani urged the entire Muslim community across India to actively participate in the caste census.

He appealed to the local units of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, all Muslim organizations, religious institutions, and community leaders to guide the public on proper caste registration and raise awareness about the long-term implications of this process.

Clarifying concerns, Maulana Madani noted that this initiative does not conflict with Islamic principles of equality, but is rather a practical necessity.

While Islam advocates for an egalitarian society, the harsh reality is that a large segment of India’s Muslim population remains socially and economically backward due to systemic injustices, flawed policies, and governmental neglect.

He asserted that it is time to approach this issue as both a moral and constitutional duty—to secure justice for the most deprived sections of society, especially marginalized and underprivileged Muslims.

Maulana Madani called on the Government of India to ensure that the caste-based census is conducted with transparency, impartiality, and seriousness, and that no community faces discrimination in the process.
