A Joint Deligation of JUH & JIH Meets with Assam Victims

New Delhi, September 28//Press Release

At the direction of the National President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Maulana Mahmood Madani, a distinguished delegation including the central workers of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind met today with the families of those killed by the police firing and those rendered homeless in a forced eviction drive. The delegation especially met with the parents, children and widows of Moinul Haq, 37, who was shot dead in the close circle (one whose dead body was beaten by police and a man was seen jumping on his chest).

A joint delegation of JUH & JIH met the victims of forced eviction and police firing in Assam. JUH hands over INR 2 lakh to each of the families of the killed and 20 thousands to the injured. 900 shelters, food packets and 200 tube wells have also been distributed among the evacuated.

During the meeting, tears welled up in their eyes. On this occasion, on the advice of Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, President of Jamiat Ulama Assam, the state Jamiat and Ajmal Foundation offered INR 200,000 each to the families of the deceased. Similarly, the father of 14-year-old Sheikh Farid was also offered INR 200,000 by the Jamiat Ulama. In addition, each of the 900 families was given food kits. 200 Tube wells and 900 shelter tents were also distributed among the affected families.

A medical camp was set up by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. The delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami Hind included Mr. Amin Al-Hassan, Vice President Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Muhammad Shafi Madani, Secretary Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.

The delegation was able to reach the remote affected area by use of tractors. The homeless families were happy to see relief materials with them. They were scattered here and there. Many of them do not even have a roof to cover their heads. He was relieved to see the tent offered by the Jamiat. The delegation also visited the place where they would be resettled. The delegation heard the pain of the family of the slain Moinul Haq. The delegation told them we have demanded justice for you.

We have come here to share our sorrows and pains and we are doing what we can and will continue to do in the future. On this occasion, Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind said that JUH president Maulana Mahmood Madani Madani is very saddened by your situation and he has written a letter to the Home Minister and also prayed for you all. Allah Almighty also helps the oppressed and also those who stand for the oppressed, we are sad to see you in the desert.

The victims told the delegation that we were evicted forcefully and when we protested, our lives were taken away, we live in a democratic country, why were we treated like this, we just want justice and a house for our family. This is our basic right.
