A Freedom Fighter,
Secularist Satyagrahi.

Shri Shashi Bhushan responded to the clarion call of Mahatma Gandhi
to “Do or Die” in the Quit India Movement of 1942.He was arrested and remained imprisoned for three and a half years as security prisoner in different jails of Punjab.

He was a fire-brand political activistwho encouraged many youngesters,
some of them from Gurukul Indraprastha to join the freedom struggle and about two dozens of them were imprisoned in the Borstal Jail at Lahore during that period.

After India became independent, Shashi Bhushan was elected Member of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh and South Delhi and championed the cause of secularism and socialism through Congress Socialist Forum.

In1969,he under took fast unto death for 15 Days in support of the demand for the take over of “Birla House”,the place where Mahatma Gandhi became a Martyr. Due to his efforts,the place hallowed by the blood of the Father of the Nation has been made a national monument.
As a result of his continuous efforts for over thirty years,a National Museum of Freedom Movement and Indian National Army(INA) have been established in the Red Fort at Delhi, and the area around India Gate has been christened as August Kranti Udyan.

He was known crusader for promoting ideals of freedom,democracy,
secularism and socialism In all his life he did not hankered after any personal benefits and privileges and kept up his austerity and simplicity.
