Kylian Mbappe pipped Lionel Messi in an epic finish to the Golden Boot race in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Messi and Mbappe came into the final of the FIFA World Cup with 5 goals each but Messi was the one to take a lead after converting his penalty in the first half.

The Argentine captain was once again taken over by Mbappe in the extra time, when Montiel conceded a penalty in the 118th minute of the game. This meant that Kylian, at just 23, is now a Golden Boot winner at the FIFA World Cup, and has the most number of finals goals in the FIFA World Cup.
