Israel-Gaza Ceasefire
‘They Bombed Schools and Homes’: Palestinians Speak as Israel Intensifies Gaza Strikes Ahead of White House Ceasefire Talks
As Israel Gaza Ceasefire discussions continue in Washington, Israeli airstrikes intensified across the Gaza Strip, with Palestinian civilians reporting that schools, residential buildings, and refugee shelters have been targeted in the latest round of bombardments. The escalation has added urgency to the high-level talks at the White House, where U.S. officials are pushing for an immediate halt to hostilities.
Palestinian health authorities reported at least 43 deaths in the past 48 hours, including 18 children and 7 women, as Israeli strikes pounded densely populated areas in Khan Younis, Rafah, and parts of Gaza City. One strike reportedly hit a school sheltering displaced families in Al-Bureij refugee camp, killing multiple members of the same family, eyewitnesses said.
“They bombed schools and homes,” said Omar Abu Jameel, a survivor from southern Gaza. “Where are we supposed to go? We have no safe place left.” Local aid groups, including the Palestinian Red Crescent, are struggling to reach the wounded due to ongoing air raids and debris-blocked roads.
Israel’s military stated the strikes were aimed at Hamas tunnels and command centers, and that civilian casualties were “unintended.” A spokesperson claimed that militants continue to operate from within civilian areas, using residents as “human shields,” a charge that Hamas denies.
