Apex Body, KDA Boycott MHA Talks: Blame Govt for Violence, Demand Release of Detainees

Leh: The Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) leadership jointly addressed the media, expressing grief over the September 24 incident where four protestors lost their lives after alleged excessive force by security forces.
Apex Body Chairman Thupstan Chhewang said Ladakhis had placed four key demands before the Centre, Sixth Schedule status, statehood, job safeguards for youth, and two parliamentary seats.
He stated that while talks with the government were underway, the violent turn of events has halted further dialogue. “Unless normalcy is restored and peace ensured, we will not proceed with talks,” he said.
Co-Chairman strongly rejected allegations of foreign funding and links with Pakistan, calling them baseless attempts by the administration to discredit the movement.
He blamed the government for mishandling the situation, saying: “They are trying to spin a false narrative through godi media. This is the government’s weakness and failure.”

The leaders demanded an inquiry into the firing, release of detained students and LBA workers, and withdrawal of “baseless” cases against protestors. They reiterated that Ladakh’s struggle has always been peaceful and rooted in democratic rights.
