Demand for New Buses and Reconstruction of the Bus Depot of Zaheerabad
Zaheerabad (Press Release) February 7, 2025 – Zaheerabad, a historic and rapidly developing smart city, faces a severe transportation crisis. The lack of adequate public transport facilities and the deteriorating condition of the 50-year-old bus depot have created immense difficulties for passengers, especially women and disabled individuals.
In light of these issues, senior Congress leaders, social activists, and the public, under the leadership of Telangana Freedom Fighter Dr. Jan Nisar Moin, have strongly demanded the immediate provision of new buses and the reconstruction of the bus depot.
A memorandum regarding this demand was submitted to the Zaheerabad Municipal Commissioner, RDO, R&B AE, and the Bus Depot Manager.
On December 6, 2025, Jan Nisar and senior journalist Mohammed Ghouse Uddin Nizami held a special meeting with Zaheerabad Bus Depot Manager (DM) Zakir Hussain to discuss the deteriorating condition of the depot and the lack of basic facilities.
Since this bus depot was built 50 years ago, it has now become insufficient and unsafe. The major issues include:
• Lack of proper seating in the waiting area – Passengers are forced to stand for hours due to the inadequate seating arrangement.
• Insufficient number of bus platforms – Leading to overcrowding and frequent delays.
• Unavailability of clean drinking water and food – The depot lacks access to clean drinking water and a functioning canteen.
• Closed reception office – Passengers face extreme difficulty in getting assistance and information.
• Poorly maintained and dysfunctional restrooms – Due to lack of cleanliness and proper facilities, passengers face hygiene issues and foul odors.
Currently, the Zaheerabad Bus Depot operates a total of 85 buses, both government and private, which are inadequate to meet the growing demand.
As the number of passengers continues to rise, the shortage of buses has forced people to travel under unsafe and uncomfortable conditions.
Overcrowding is making travel particularly difficult for women, disabled persons, and the elderly. Additionally, the main route for Zaheerabad depot buses is via Ameerpet, causing passengers to rely on buses from other states for travel.
Addressing the situation, the Depot Manager stated that “We demand to the government provide 4 express buses, 6 deluxe and 10 drivers to ensure a comfortable and timely journey for passengers.
Immediate action must be taken, and passengers should be allowed to travel only according to the number of available seats to prevent overcrowding and accidents.”
Key Demands:
1. Immediate addition of new buses to cater to the increasing travel needs of passengers.
2. Strict enforcement of seat-based passenger limits to prevent overcrowding and ensure safe travel.
3. Construction of a modern and smart bus station equipped with:
4 Advanced infrastructure tailored to passenger needs.
5 Green spaces and tree plantations for environmental sustainability.
6 Well-designed entrance and exit gates to enhance the depot’s aesthetics.
7 CC roads for smooth vehicle movement.
8 RTC fuel station for depot buses, as the current fuel requirement is 6,000 liters of diesel per day.
Dr. Jaan Nisar Moin, along with his team, including Mohammed Ghouse Uddin Baba Patel (General Secretary, Minority Cell, Sangareddy District), Mohammed Ayub (Congress Party Incharge), Ayub Khan (TKS), Syed Ahmed, Mohammed Mahmood (Ex-Ward Member), Jameel Ahmed (Kohir), Mohammed Arif, Mohammed Hussain, Mohammed Moiz Lashkari, and other social activists and citizens, have urged the Telangana government to take immediate action.
Dr. Jan Nisar Moin emphasized:
“Under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, every citizen has the right to safe and dignified travel. Additionally, as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, of 2016, the government is obligated to provide accessible transportation for disabled individuals.
Furthermore, India’s National Transport Policy emphasizes making public transport safe, sustainable, and welfare-oriented. Hence, the government has both a legal and moral responsibility to immediately restore and modernize the Zaheerabad Bus Depot.”
This demand has been formally presented to the relevant government departments, ministers, MLA, MP, and municipal authorities for urgent resolution. The dream of Zaheerabad’s progress can only be realized by modernizing public infrastructure in line with contemporary needs.
This is not just about renovating a bus depot but ensuring the fundamental right to safe travel, urban development, and an efficient public transport system.
Now, the government must decide whether it prioritizes public welfare or continues to leave citizens struggling with these challenges. The decisive moment has arrived.
Jai Hind! Jai Jai Telangana!
