Amid Israel’s Air Campaign Against Iran and Lebanon, U.S. Struggles to Get Citizens Out of the Region
A state-affiliated news agency has reported that the mourning ceremony for Iran’s assassinated Supreme Leader has been postponed. This comes as Israel announced the launch of its tenth wave of strikes inside Iran, while continuing heavy bombardment in Lebanon. According to the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), more than 1,000 people have lost their lives in Iran since the conflict began.
• Evacuation efforts intensify: The United States has shut down its embassies in three countries, scaled back diplomatic staff across the region, and urged American citizens to depart immediately. The United Arab Emirates said it has established secure air corridors in coordination with neighboring countries, as governments scramble to evacuate stranded nationals.
• Markets react to tensions: Asian markets declined sharply, with Seoul witnessing record losses, as investors expressed concern over surging oil prices in economies heavily dependent on Middle Eastern energy supplies. In contrast, European markets traded higher, and U.S. stocks were poised to open modestly up. Crude oil prices also registered gains.
