Appointing Two Principals in Tibbia College is an Attack on Hakim Ajmal Khan’s Vision: Dr. R.S. Chauhan
New Delhi: The All India Unani Tibbi Congress, Delhi State, organised a felicitation ceremony to honour Professor Mazahir Alam, President, Board of Unani, Siddha and Sowa Rigpa, NCISM, New Delhi; Dr. Yogta Manjal, Director, Department of AYUSH, Government of Delhi; and Dr. Yunus Iftikhar Munshi, Deputy Director General, CCRUM, New Delhi on their recent appointments.
The programme was presided over by Professor Mushtaq Ahmad, National President of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress (AIUTC). Reiterating the organisation’s long-standing demands, he urged the central government to ensure proper representation of Unani medicine in the NCISM. Like Ayurveda, he said, Unani should have a separate board in the NCISM, and the earlier requirement of Urdu as a compulsory subject up to Class 10 for admission to the BUMS course should be restored.
He praised the work of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), calling its efforts to popularise Unani medicine across the country one of the greatest achievements of the present era.
Speaking as Chief Guest, Dr. R.S. Chauhan expressed serious concern over the appointment of two principals in the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College founded by Hakim Ajmal Khan. He said the institution had functioned smoothly for 100 years under a single principal, and the temporary appointment of a second one was both puzzling and troubling.
He added that having two principals amounts to laying the groundwork for dividing the college, a move he described as destructive to the composite Ganga-Jamuni culture championed by Hakim Ajmal Khan.
Dr. Chauhan reminded the audience that in 1916, Hakim Ajmal Khan, together with Mahatma Gandhi, established the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College to promote both systems of medicine equally under one roof and to bring the two communities closer.
Dr. Chauhan urged all organisations to form a Joint Action Committee and work collectively to resolve current issues while safeguarding Hakim Ajmal Khan’s vision.
Distinguished guests included Dr. Syed Farooq, Dr. N.K. Chhauniya, Professor Mohammad Idris, Professor S.M. Arif Zaidi, Dr. Zaki Ahmad Siddiqui, Dr. Minhajuddin, Dr. Mohammad Fazil Khan, among others, who also shared their views.
Those who played key roles in making the event successful included Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Meeruthi, Dr. Ghiyasuddin Siddiqui, Dr. Ehsan Ahmad Siddiqui, Dr. Faizan Ahmad Siddiqui, Dr. Faheem Malik, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Hapoori, Dr. Shamsuddin Azad, Dr. Mahmood Alam, Dr. Athar Mahmood, Dr. Farman Ali, Dr. Ilyas Mazhar Husain, Dr. Habibullah, Dr. Anwar Jamal, Dr. Sheikh Khizra, Dr. Shehnaz Parveen, Dr. Zaki Ahmad, Dr. Sagheer Ahmad Siddiqui, Dr. Syed Mansoor Jamal Kazmi, Dr. Khursheed Alam, Dr. Mohammad Saleem Siddiqui, Hakim Mohammad Murtuza Dehlavi, Hakim Arbabuddin, Hakim Azeer Baqai, Hakim Naeem Raza, Dr. D.R.
